Recovery Fest 2009
September 24th Over 1,000 people attended Recovery Fest 09 on September 24, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Triangle Park in downtown Lexington. Recovery Fest 09 included live music, activities for children, inspirational speakers and lunch. Chrysalis House clients documented their past, present, and future in recovery through a series of photographs. The photos were displayed at Recovery Fest, along with the Clothesline Project – a collection of t-shirts decorated by women to express their feelings about being affected by violence in their homes. A candlelight vigil to remember those lost to alcohol and drug use was held at 5:45.At noon, Mayor Newberry signed a proclamation declaring September 24 to be Lexington’s Recovery Day. Other speakers included Linda White-Young, SAMHSA CSAT project officer, Mike Barry, CEO of People Advocating Recovery, Judge Lucinda Masterton, and Reverend Erin Rouse. Representatives from almost 30 treatment/recovery agencies, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Al-Anon provided literature and education to the public.Many, many thanks to all of the volunteers, donors, and participants who made this event a huge success!!
